Teaching

Alice has taught students of all levels and all ages privately (in person and online), as well as through Sam Ash Music in Raleigh, NC, and Tahoe Truckee School of Music in Tahoe City, CA. She teaches melodies, chords, rhythm, and practical music theory so you can ace your first open mic or entertain your friends at your next neighborhood bonfire.

Alice is also a strong proponent of memorizing your songs so that you don’t rely on the sheet music and can actually feel the music you are creating.

Alice offers private one-on-one violin/fiddle and guitar lessons

MORE ABOUT ALICE

alice musicAlice Osborn recently relocated from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Lake Tahoe, California. She is a singer-songwriter, poet, and educator, who grew up in the Washington, D.C. area where in elementary school her fourth grade music teacher introduced her to the magic of folk, classical, country, spirituals, pop, and rock n' roll, and soon changed her life by incorporating history and stories, the makings of folk tradition.

Alice is influenced by pop music, as well as traditional tunes from bluegrass, Celtic/Scottish, and old time.

She teaches violin/fiddle, as well as guitar, banjo, ukulele, and mandolin.

Educated at both Virginia Tech and North Carolina State University, Alice has published four books of poetry, three albums: most recently Skirts in the Snow: Beyond the Tragedy of the Donner Party featuring 12 original songs written from the women of the Donner Party's point of view and their struggles.

She has also developed a living history performance of the Donner Party featuring her original songs.

Alice is currently working on her next album about love and loss against the backdrop of Lake Tahoe.

Much of Alice's work focuses on the Donner Party's ill-fated journey westward in 1846 and recounts their travels and travails as they journey cross-country in covered wagons to California, which, at the time, still belonged to Mexico. These emigrants were ordinary people wishing to make a better life for themselves and their families and they got swept up in a terrible tale of tragedy and loss that tested the limits of their human existence.

Additionally, Alice is currently writing a post-tragedy Donner Party novel/memoir featuring the tragic leader of the Forlorn Hope, William H. Eddy, and how his story intertwines with hers of picking everything up from Raleigh, North Carolina and moving to California near the site of the Donner Party in Truckee.
